I got on a train there, funny as fuck, the bloke next to me kept trying to set me up with a hooker and when I told him I wasn't interested he got me to eat a duck's egg which had a fertilized embryo in it.

All fun and games when you are young.

Re: Vietnam
Fertilised duck egg on the train is great. Sold on the street too and is surprisingly nice (think of an inside out scotch egg but with organ meat)

Go to Hoi An and Hanoi. Hoi An is beautiful, Hanoi has a great nightlife and loads of museums.

Go to the forbidden city in Hue. Avoid just about everything else there though.

Loads of temples etc scattered about, too many to list.

Don't miss Hoi An if you like tailored clothes.

Re: Vietnam
I thought the duck egg was OK, the bill was a little chewy and there were 2 or 3 down feathers on it. Freaky. They probably sold me an out of date one. Not as past it's sell by date as the hooker that the bloke was trying to set me up with was though.

Re: Vietnam
I visited Saigon 3 years ago and it was an experience.
I was interested in the war era sites and walked around in the heat looking at places where things happened. Unfortunately, the North won and it felt weird seeing communist flags and propaganda everywhere.
I would like to go back for a longer trip next time.

Re: Vietnam
The people are not really communist at all though, as far as I could see they were all on the capitalist hussle.

Saw a funeral procession in Ho Chi Minh, hundreds if not THOUSANDS of scooters following, I think he must have been a gangster / party leader. Same thing really.

Re: Vietnam
I remember a traffic jam of scooters. From a distance, it sounded like a beehive.
The traffic was the worst thing about the place, but it was also part of the experience.

One of my mates went a few months ago. Said phu coq prison was an eye opener. Had displays with mannequins acting out the torture that happened there.
Always wanted to go there, wouldn’t mind doing what they did in that top gear special.

I had to leave that prison PDQ as it was very uncomfortable , but (sort of) worth seeing .

The longest cable car ride over water (10km or 6 miles in old money) is a 20 min drive away .

Well worth seeing .

The boat ride from HCMC to the jungle is well worth the 60 odd quid .

You get a tour with lunch and can fire all sorts of guns .

Bars are in a place called locally backpacker st . All have price lists outside so look before you go in as one bar will charge 50p a beer and the one next door is 2.50.

Only did pho quoc and the jungle tour , can’t help with much else .

March last year I was there .

Re: Vietnam
I first visited there in 1998, been a few times since.

Has changed massively, there were no ATM's, traffic lights and fast food places.

Lost a lot of it's charm, but still a great place to visit.

Hoi An is a lovely place, beautiful old town with 2 nearby beaches.

Nha Trang used to be nice not very nice now.
